I’ve had issues with gluten for ten years now, but only went gluten free 2 years ago in 2011. The first year I lapsed from my gluten free diet over the summer while sailing because it was so hard to eat lunch on the go, often with a tiller in one hand or because I didn’t have the stomach for preparing a salad as well as sandwiches down below while in lumpy seas.I discovered the Paleo Diet that fall and it completely changed my life. That, combined with the fact that now my body isn’t used to gluten it can not tolerate it at all means that I won’t relapse again. This summer on the water, I ate raw almond butter on rice cakes every day for lunch. Not exactly Paleo, and not exactly exciting either. It’s something to work on.
I have yet to find the perfect “Boat cook book” and the hopes of finding one that is Paleo is quite slim so my plan is to share my successes here. If you are in the ‘same boat’ so to speak, please comment with your tips and ideas.
My Paleo Guru is Elana Amsterdam, if you are considering Paleo you should check her site out.
